Bella's Backyard Adventure — Digital Picture Book (PDF) | A Golden Retriever Puppy Bedtime Story for Toddlers

Four fast puppies. One slow one. A bedtime story that slows the whole house down.

Bella is the one golden retriever puppy who never keeps up. While her four siblings zip through the garden gate and up the hill, Bella stops to look at a butterfly, listen to a frog, and roll in the mint. Every time the puppies count heads, one is missing, and every time they go back, they find Bella enjoying something they raced right past. Until a whole day of lagging behind leads to one very muddy surprise at the kitchen door.

Why parents and teachers love it

• Built for first words: four-beat refrains ("Zip, zip, zip, zip!") and a counting line that leaves the fifth beat for your child to fill.
• A calming rhythm, not a wind-up: three gentle loops from morning to evening that end at supper and bedtime.
• Counting and the five senses hidden inside the fun.
• Classic mid-century illustrations in golden fur and warm kitchen light.
